Accreditation of Healthcare Facilities
It’s not a fun subject.
No sexy alarmist headlines to see, no Tweets or Facebook Likes:
YOUR HOSPITAL EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE IS ON SCHEDULE AND OUT OF DATE!
But this is true for many institutions.
Hospitals reporting 100% compliant on scheduled inspections are probably not inspecting all their medical equipment on time. 100% is almost impossible to achieve.
But hospitals not reporting 100% completion rates may not receive Joint Commission Accreditation. This presents real pressure for administrators if they want to be accredited.
So, what do you think?
Correct answer: Hospitals will report 100% completion rates in order to be compliant.
Result? Patient safety issue, yes, and no one knows or reports the actual inspection completion rates.
And this is all acceptable: it is The Joint Commission that owns this policy and sets the regulatory direction for state health departments and Medicare.
